Pre-provisioning best practices for a seamless RISE with SAP deployment

The pre-provisioning phase is a vital, time-sensitive step in a RISE with SAP implementation, focusing on gathering critical customer, system, and network data for seamless deployment. NTT DATA Business Solutions’ Cloud Concierge Services provide expert guidance and tailored support to streamline this process, ensuring an efficient and successful transition. Here are a few best practices from our team.

Pre-provisioning for RISE with SAP success

Pre-provisioning best practices for a seamless RISE with SAP deployment

The pre-provisioning phase is a critical step in ensuring a seamless transition to RISE with SAP, a bundle offering centered on S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition. This phase focuses on collecting essential customer, system, and network data to properly configure the RISE technical infrastructure for deployment.  This phase needs to be completed within 5 working days of contract signature.

Given its time-sensitive nature, delays in this process can disrupt the project timeline and jeopardize the go-live date. Taking prompt, coordinated action ensures the infrastructure is ready on schedule, minimizing risks and avoiding costly setbacks.

The pre-provisioning process begins with a meeting between your team and a Partner Cloud Architect (PCA), ideally scheduled shortly after the contract is signed. The target audience from your side is an SAP Basis resource, a network resource, and a project manager, at minimum (This could also be your SI). During this meeting, the PCA will provide an overview of the pre-provisioning process and guide you through the required steps. This includes a detailed review of two key forms:

  • Customer Onboarding Form
This online form is designed for the customer to provide essential system and organization-specific details.
  • Hyperscaler-Specific Networking Form
This form gathers critical network information needed to configure the preferred connection method to the hyperscaler of your choice.

You, the customer, will then complete these forms to the best of their ability and schedule a follow-up meeting with the PCA. During this meeting, the PCA will review the forms and address any remaining questions.

Once the two forms are completed, the PCA will submit them to SAP to initiate the Sales to Delivery (S2D) phase. This phase includes a 5-business-day period during which SAP and the PCA will exchange questions and answers. The phase concludes with a Sales to Delivery meeting between SAP and the PCA. Once the S2D process is completed, the PCA will exit, and SAP will proceed with provisioning the customer systems.

The pre-provisioning process is a critical step in ensuring a smooth SAP with RISE implementation. For successful execution, it’s essential that key customer resources—such as an SAP Basis resource, a network resource, and a project manager—collaborate closely with the PCA during the process. By providing the required system and network data and maintaining clear communication with the Partner Cloud Architect and SAP, these teams can help avoid delays and set the stage for an efficient deployment. Proper completion of this phase ensures a well-configured environment for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, setting the foundation for a successful go-live with RISE with SAP.
