To achieve your training goals this year you need to play it SMART not lose

You must be Realistic; are you working towards something that is going to benefit the business? Is this the right person? Can you afford to do it (and can you afford NOT to)? Is it the right time to be extending this role? Put Timed metrics on this, especially in terms of attending required external courses. Failure to do so will likely mean the focus drifts and that would be a negative result for the employee and for the business.
