Back to the industry standard: SuccessFactors HXM Suite becomes SAP SuccessFactors HCM. We explain the background and what SAP SuccessFactors users need to know.
Renaming at SAP SuccessFactors: HXM becomes HCM again
From HXM back to HCM: Why SAP SuccessFactors HCM remains focused on people
SAP is now referring to its most important HR product as SAP SuccessFactors HCM – the term Human Experience Management (HXM) has been dropped. In this blog post, we explain the motivation and consequences for companies using SAP SuccessFactors.
Why this renaming?
SAP introduced the Human Experience Management (HXM) category in 2019 to recognize the growing importance of the employee experience in companies – and to make the experience measurable and continuously have a positive influence.
In previous years, the focus was on Human Capital Management (HCM). The term “human capital” was coined in the early 1960s. It reflected the valuable skills of employees that promote company growth. At the same time, fair employment practices legislation was introduced and the importance of employee well-being and satisfaction in the workplace was increasingly recognized. With the introduction of the internet and the demand for rapid information sharing, companies increasingly turned to HCM systems that could handle the growing complexity of HR tasks.
The topic of employee experience is now on the agenda of many HR departments. At the same time, the term used by the market and purchasers for the software category remained Human Capital Management (HCM). SAP is now responding to this fact and is going back to the industry standard by renaming the product SAP SuccessFactors HCM.
What will change for SAP SuccessFactors users?
Nothing. The SAP product strategy and development roadmap remain unchanged. This includes focusing on people and their experiences. Even though the term “Human Experience Management” (HXM) is now giving way to the classic “Human Capital Management” (HCM) at SAP, people and their experiences remain at the center of the SAP SuccessFactors product strategy. For both SAP and us as SAP partners, the switch to HCM does not change what really matters: the people and their experiences in the organization. SAP SuccessFactors uses intelligent technologies to create experiences that offer real competitive advantages. In recent years, users of SAP SuccessFactors solutions have benefited from many new developments such as generative AI, embedded feedback and new intelligent capabilities that accelerate and enhance everyday HR work. The integrated HR suite will continue to follow this path in the future.
What happens next?
Over the coming months, SAP will gradually update all product names, service offerings and branding in the background.
