Why SAP – and why NTT DATA?
Following a detailed evaluation, Bergen Engines selected SAP S/4HANA to serve as a unified digital backbone across the company. The goal is to implement one system that supports the entire product lifecycle – from design and production to service and maintenance – while giving all teams access to real-time, accurate data.
The leadership group at Bergen Engines says:
“NTT DATA was chosen based on their deep industry knowledge and structured implementation methodology, as well as their ability to tailor solutions to Bergen Engines’ size and pace. A strong local presence and genuine understanding of the company’s business processes were also key factors.”
“This project is about much more than just technology – it’s about transforming how people work, collaborate, and deliver value every day. With strong commitment from both sides, we’re confident the solution will reflect Bergen Engines’ specific way of working and support the organization well into the future – including advanced configure-to-order and engineer-to-order processes.”

“Together, we are building a smarter, more integrated future for Bergen Engines,” says Morten Arnesen, Managing Director at NTT DATA.
What will change?
With the new system in full operation, Bergen Engines hopes the new system will have an impact on nearly every role across the company. The aim is that:
- Finance will have access to real-time data, reducing dependence on manual input and Excel spreadsheets. Project profitability and cost tracking will become far more transparent.
- Production will benefit from clear, updated work orders tied directly to product designs. This will reduce the need for clarifications and custom handling, and improve control, planning, and KPI tracking.
- Service teams will gain quick access to detailed delivery and change records for each engine, leading to more efficient maintenance and spare parts handling.
- Engineering will be able to manage the product more easily throughout its lifecycle, across both Production and Service, with a tight integration from design including variant configuration. Sustaining work can be carried out more efficiently through effective deviation reports and systems. Early access to engine and BOP specifications enables Planning and Procurement to start earlier, gain a stronger negotiating position, and reduce changes to specifications.
- Program managers will be able to track progress, deliveries, and financials – all within a single platform.
- Management and support functions will gain better insight and overview, enabling faster and more informed decisions.
The leadership group at Bergen Engines states: “Our goal is to close the gap between what we plan and what we execute. SAP will give us one version of the truth – and we hope this will improve everything from planning to delivery.”
More than just IT – a shared journey
This is a transformation effort that touches the entire organization. While implementing a new ERP system can be challenging, Bergen Engines is placing strong emphasis on training and support to ensure all employees – whether on the factory floor or in the office – are confident with the new tools.
SAP S/4HANA also brings a significantly more modern and intuitive user interface, tailored to Bergen Engines’ workflows and operational needs.
Shared commitment, lasting value
NTT DATA and Bergen Engines are working in close collaboration throughout the project. This is not just about implementing software – it’s about delivering lasting value for the business and empowering people across the company.
“The ERP solution we build today should support Bergen Engines for the next 10 to 15 years. That’s why Bergen Engines is investing not just in the system, but in people, processes, and shared ownership of the result,” says NTT DATA’s Morten Arnesen.
