On June 1 this year, Seagems in Norway went live with the company’s first ERP system, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition. NTT DATA Business Solutions was the implementation partner during the project that went live in only 14 weeks.

Seagems in Norway implement SAP S/4HANA to continue its global growth
Today, around 50 million tonnes of sidestreams from the world’s seafood industry are thrown away every year. Norwegian Seagems wants to change that. In just a few years, the company has built a facility on Ellingsøya outside Ålesund to upcycle thousands of tonnes of marine residues, which are then used as natural nutrients and flavorings in around four billion meals worldwide in 2024. Now, Seagems has chosen to invest in an advanced ERP system in the cloud – SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition – to continue its global growth.
“Seagems is a small company compared to the investment we have now made in SAP. With this, we are well prepared for the next step in our global growth. We can add functionality to the SAP system as we expand into new markets,” says Karl Inge Slotsvik, CEO of Seagems Norway.
From Excel to S/4HANA
Seagems currently has around 30 employees in Norway, Denmark, and Thailand. The business upcycles residual raw materials from fish and shellfish into high-quality food ingredients in the form of powders, pastes and extracts. The ingredients are then sold to global food producers of, for example, sauces, soups, noodles, and broth. Seagems core competence lies in customizing ingredients that satisfy the unique taste and nutritional needs of different parts of the world.
Ole-Mikal Fløgstad, Project Manager at NTT DATA Business Solutions, explains:
“This is a customer who went from using Excel and manual work processes to implementing and leveraging an S4 Public system in just 14 weeks. Seagems is a small company where some employees have several roles, and therefore we have focused on user training and using SAP standard as far as possible, while at the same time challenging Seagems to optimize its use.
He continues:
“During the short implementation period, we have focused on the core functionality in SAP that suits Seagems, and now, after the implementation, we are working on a plan for further improving and developing the system to adopt new functionalities. As a group we have learned a lot from this project, and we will take these experiences with us as we engage in new projects.”
