Quick Start your S/4HANA project using SAP Cloud Appliance Library with Amazon Web Services

When considering or implementing SAP S/4HANA the availability of a trial or demo system is crucial. In the discovery phase such a system enables you to experience the capabilities of S/4HANA and the Fiori User Experience yourself when considering the transformation to S/4. After having made the decision to move to S/4 with a greenfield implementation you will then quickly need a system to support you in preparing and executing fit-to-standard solution validation workshops. Practice has shown that having a project development system in place can take up to several weeks and in case of more difficult environments even months.

SAP S/4HANA Trial Systems

Fortunately SAP provides two alternatives to already start exploring the world of SAP S/4HANA before actually having your own S/4HANA system in place:

Option 1 – SAP S/4HANA Cloud Trial, a shared S/4HANA Cloud demo system in Public Cloud
In my opinion a nice and free of charge option to just quickly show the capabilities of SAP S/4HANA and the Fiori user interface in a discovery phase. This public trial however only offers a selected and limited functional scope and comes with pre-defined demo data only. No configuration changes can be made in the system, nor is it possible to upload your own data. Therefore this option is not suitable for preparing and exploring your solution validation workshops.

Option 2 – SAP S/4HANA Trial, your own S/4HANA On-premise system as Private cloud
This will allow you to run an entire “on-premise” SAP S/4HANA landscape as a trial and demo system at a cloud provider like Amazon Web Services (AWS). This private trial will contain all relevant Best Practices and supports configuration changes as well as the ability to upload and use your own data.

Use Case – SAP S/4HANA Chemicals Trial

The SAP S/4HANA Chemicals trial with industry best practices accelerates implementations and simplifies operations of chemical companies by providing configuration for business processes critical to the industry. The trial is available as a fully-configured software appliance and can be accessed in the SAP Cloud Appliance Library (CAL) or via Blu-ray using a dedicated ordering process.

Using the SAP Cloud Appliance Library option with AWS I was able to set-up a ready for use SAP S/4HANA Chemicals Trial System with Industry Best Practices within less than 2 hours.
